A detox diet plan can be beneficial to most people in today’s society. This type of diet plan can help prime our bodies for optimal eating behaviors and are especially good for people who plan to start a long term diet plan. Persons who eat a lot of junk food and/or a lot of red meat and non-organic foods can also benefit greatly by going on a detoxification diet plan at least a couple of times per year.

When researching detox diet plans, is that a safe diet plan should be a short term plan that puts an emphasis on raw foods that are high in fiber. High fiber foods draw out toxins from our organs and help flush these toxins our of our bodies. These plans also encourage the dieter to eat foods that are high in vitamins and minerals that will be eliminated from the body along with the toxins. It is important to only eat organic foods when on a detox diet plan as well, so as to not pollute the body any more with chemicals that may be on conventionally grown foods.

There are many benefits of a detox diet plan. Other benefits include, regular bowel movements and better digestion, clearer skin, and some say they are able to concentrate more. However, not everyone should try a detoxification plan. Enhance Your Children’s Fitness Through Fitness Programs

When you research the Internet for children’s fitness programs, you will come across several innovative and exciting programs to increase children’s fitness levels. There also physical education programs specially tailored for children.

Preschool exercise programs are much needed, but too often, they get put on the back burner in daycare centers and other preschool organizations. Some may feel it’s not that important that preschoolers exercise on a regular basis, but this could not be farther from the truth. Fitness is very important for preschoolers and it helps them establish good habits that can last a lifetime.

15 Tips To Develop Your Own Fitness Program

You don’t have to join a gym or buy expensive equipment to improve your health and become more fit. There are many items in your home that you can use in an effective health and fitness program. The important thing to health and fitness is getting good cardiovascular conditioning, developing stronger muscles, and building your strength and endurance. You can’t buy those, but you can earn them with a regular program that promotes your good health and fitness. Good health and fitness is an important goal if you want a long, happy life.

If you follow these basic guidelines, you can get all the exercise you need to improve your physical condition and psychological health. Use them to come up with your own health and fitness program.

1. Select an aerobic exercise that’s fun for you and that you can do indoors or outside. Choose from jogging, hiking, walking, running, playing soccer or tennis, or in-line skating. Cardiovascular conditioning or aerobic exercises can help you attain a total body workout, so be sure that, whatever you do, it’s vigorous and sustained. Make sure your heart rate goes up and stays up for at least 20 minutes.

2. Use exercise videos to learn new exercises and have a leader to follow. There are many interesting and innovative videos on the market today that offer a wide variety of activities, all of them designed to improve your health and fitness. If you can imagine it, someone’s made a video to show you how and keep you moving! Much less expensive than a gym or equipment, these videos give a great workout and some pretty good entertainment. Examples in addition to programs designed for specific parts of the body include kickboxing, body rock, belly dancing, power yoga, and salsa dancing.

3. Change the way you do things around the house and get a good workout. Instead of using your power lawn mower, use a push mower. Vacuum the whole house. Shovel snow from your driveway and sidewalks. Carry your laundry basket or your groceries up and down the stairs a few times. Wear weights around your ankles and wrists as you go about your daily routine. There are many small ways to improve your health and fitness without even noticing it!

4. Turn on your favorite dance music and dance. See if you can do ballroom or hip hop. No need to be embarrassed – no one’s watching. Just have fun. Try some modern dance. This is a great way to get some exercise, improve your health and fitness, and relieve stress.

5. Organize active social events. Get your friends to join you in a game of touch football. Shoot a few baskets with the boys. Join a soccer team. Get a friend to take dancing lessons with you. Play rackquetball. Use exercise as a way to build relationships and have a more active social life.

6. Organize any game activities with your friends. It can include kickball, football, basketball, soccer, and more. Other activities that promote muscle workouts through body movements are also a good option.

7. Skip rope with the kids! This is a very inexpensive and fun cardiovascular workout!

8. Rediscover your local parks. Many of them have fitness trails you can follow with recommended exercises, instructions, and goals. There’s no excuse now. It’s all laid out before you. All you have to do is get in motion.

These are just a few suggestions among a million things you could do to improve your health and fitness. Perhaps you’ve had some ideas of your own as you read the suggestions. Give them a try.

Before you start any new exercise routine, keep these tips in mind:

9. Never start any exercise at full-tilt. It’s important to warm up and cool down when you’re doing a workout. You can’t have perfect health and fitness in one day. It’s a process. Be patient. Start slow and work into a more vigorous routine. And ALWAYS do stretches before and after your workout.

10. Try to get at least 30 minutes of exercise every day. Vary activities so you don’t get bored with one thing. Keep it interesting, but keep doing it no matter what. Great health and fitness is not an over-night proposition. And staying fit and healthy is a lifestyle, not a project.

11. Make sure you’re using the proper clothing and equipment for the exercise you’ve chosen. Otherwise, you may injure yourself and delay the steady progress you hope for. When you dress, think of the temperature, whether inside or out. If you’re exercising outside, be sure to wear proper clothing for the conditions. And if you can’t exercise outside, you can still pursue your health and fitness program indoors.

12. Get a friend to join you. The buddy system is very effective for health and fitness programs. It makes exercising more fun and gives you a chance for some social time. It also make it more likely that you’ll stick to the program in the long run. You may even spark some healthy competition that will improve both of you!

13. Cross train. Change the exercises you do every day. Change the length of time you do them. Keep some variety in your health and fitness program to prevent boredom and injury.

14. Always consult your health care provider before you start a new health and fitness program to be sure your plans support your unique physical circumstances. That way, you can’t work against your own body. Your health care provider can recommend exercises that will strengthen you where you’re weakest without creating severe or long-term problems.

15. Don’t stop at exercise. A comprehensive health and fitness program will include a healthy, well-balanced diet. Reduce the sweets and increase the vitamins and minerals. Don’t go to the grocery store hungry, and take a well thought-out list that includes plenty of variety and delicious meals with you.

These suggestions are not hard to follow, but they do require discipline and commitment if your health and fitness program is to succeed. Good health and a well-toned body are within your reach. All you have to do is work for them. The benefits are without value – you’ll live a longer, happier, better quality life.

10 Reasons Why You Must Improve the Environmental Performance of Your Business

1. You are wasting money

Between 2006 and 2008 I carried out simple half-day environmental health checks in 26 businesses ranging from catering through printing, engineering and construction to major pharmaceutical companies. I identified an average saving in waste, raw material, energy and water costs of £175,000 per annum, per company. And those health checks barely scratched the surface.

One of my favourite definitions of waste is ‘anything you buy that you cannot sell’ . Savings from cutting waste (whether that is wasted materials, energy or water) comes straight off your bottom line. If your profit margin is 25%, every £1 saved in this way is equivalent to £4 worth of new sales. And unlike cutting staff, cutting waste costs improves rather than detracts from your ability to deliver value to your customers.

2. The true cost of your waste can be immense

I despair at the number of businesses who go to great lengths to manufacture a high value product and then reverse a forklift truck into it or spill it on the floor during packaging. Most businesses know how much waste costs to dispose of, but the true cost of this type of waste is much higher as it includes:

• Disposal costs;
• Raw material costs;
• Energy and other utility costs for manufacturing;
• Labour costs both from the original manufacturing and the clean up;
• The cost of the disruption required to fulfil orders including knock-on effects on other orders;
• Opportunity costs of not being able to sell that product;
• Opportunity costs from poor customer satisfaction (eg lost future orders).

3. Your energy, water and waste costs are rising

Energy costs doubled between June 2007 and 2008. Waste costs continue to rise as landfill tax escalates and the type of materials that can be landfilled are restricted. Indications from the government are that it will continue increasing the Landfill Tax by £8 per tonne each year up to a level of at least £48 per tonne (from £32 per tonne today). In areas such as the South East of England, water resources are becoming ever more scarce so costs are rising. Doing nothing on environment performance means going backwards rather than standing still.

4. Your customers or clients demand it

If you sell to the public, certain markets are going solidly green. The proportion of white goods rated A for energy efficiency sold has risen from 0 to 76% in the ten years to 2006. 70% of baby food sold in the UK is now organic.

If you sell to other businesses, then your environmental performance becomes their environmental performance. Increasingly larger organisations are demanding information on suppliers’ performance and Local Authorities and other public sector bodies are turning to ‘green procurement’ to meet Government targets.

5. Your compliance costs are rising

There are literally hundreds of pieces of environmental legislation being drafted in the EU and the UK Government. Continually shifting incrementally to keep ahead of the law is an expensive hobby whereas eradicating problems completely is cheaper in the long run and keeps you miles ahead of the lawmakers.

Regulators such as the Environment Agency are increasingly taking a risk based approach to enforcement. If you routinely store hazardous materials, or they regard your practices as poor, they’ll be knocking on your door much more often than if you have eradicated the hazards and have tip top housekeeping.

6. You may be risking prosecution

Every three years the Environment Agency surveys small business’ attitudes to the environment. In 2005 only 18% could name one piece of environmental legislation that affects them, even though every company must comply with several pieces of legislation, for example, waste management regulations .

And it is not just small business who are at risk. In the last year, I have had several arguments with major household names who have misunderstood the scope of the Waste Electronic and Electrical Equipment (WEEE). I really had to browbeat them into accepting that they were breaking the law, faced prosecution and the resulting PR fall out.

7. You are missing out on a great PR opportunity

With all the media attention on environmental issues, good environmental performance gives you a great opportunity to get good news stories into the media and advertising. Good solid green PR will impress the public, the pressure groups, your clients and customers and the regulators.

8. Pressure groups may give you a nasty surprise

In 2007, Apple Computers had it all. From their stylish iMac and MacBook computers to the revolutionary and must-have iPod and rumours of a phone abounding, their fashionable, cutting edge image appeared unassailable. That was until Greenpeace put them bottom of an environmental league table of electronics companies and set up a parody of Apple’s website to detail their environmental infractions . Apple’s legendary CEO Steve Jobs at first dismissed the campaign, but only instigated a stronger backlash . Jobs then realised the precarious position he was in, with Apple’s hip image at serious risk. He did a swift u-turn, launching a radical programme to improve environmental performance and publicised it on the company’s home page for a month.

If you are a high profile business (eg a high street retailer, an energy company, a major construction company, a motor manufacturer, a producer of household goods or in the primary sector – mining, oil, gas, forestry etc), then you are at direct risk from environmental and human rights pressure groups. These groups need high profile campaigns like the Apple example to make the mainstream media take notice and are always looking for a ‘tall poppy’ to target. If you are a smaller business, but you do business with a high profile client, then pressure groups will hold them responsible for your environmental sins. This is a very easy way to lose a major customer.

9. Your staff want you to do it

Environmental and CSR initiatives are a determining factor in employee retention and engagement rates according to the Chartered Institute for Personnel and Development (CIPD). In the US, a survey of over 4,000 people carried out by recruitment job site MonsterTRAK found that 80 per cent of young professionals are interested in securing a job that has a positive impact on the environment. Meanwhile, over 90 per cent claimed they would prefer to work for an environmentally friendly employer. In the UK, a survey of 5,000 job hunters showed that 43% would not work for a firm which had no ethical or environmental policies, even if they were offered £10,000 a year more than to work for a business with a sense of corporate social responsibility.

10. Your competitors are doing it

The 2005 NetRegs survey found that 71% of businesses had made at least one practical step to improve their environmental performance . Some sectors have seen green issues come right to the fore eg the current great green supermarket wars where Marks & Spencer, Tesco and Sainsbury’s are fighting it out to get the best green image. Sir Timothy Leahy went on the record this year to say that Tesco’s plans would not be affected by the ‘credit crunch’ as he believed consumers’ values would not change . He sees this as a serious part of maintaining Tesco’s competitive advantage over its rivals.

If your competitors have a better environmental performance than you, then compared to you they will:

• Have lower operating costs and either a higher profit margin or a more competitive pricing structure;
• Be more robust to future change: new legislation, green taxation, and customer demand;
• Have better PR and marketing opportunities;
• Have better motivated employees and will be attracting the best new recruits;
• Have less risk of prosecution, NGO campaigns and a lighter touch from the regulators.

Well, they’d be mad not to, wouldn’t they?

Knowing Your Personality Type is the Key to Achieving Diet Plan Success

Ever have a sister-in-law, co-worker, or friend who has dropped several pounds and eagerly tells you all about it? You buy into her enthusiasm, join the class, purchase the meals, and three weeks later you feel like an utter failure. You know what to do, you saw her do it—you just couldn’t do it yourself. You can’t figure out how to lose weight like she did.
In dieting, as in life, there is not a one-size-fits-all diet plan. To know how to lose weight, you must first identify your personality type and work from your own strengths.

Which personality type are you?
When my dear husband and I are planning a vacation, I like to dream about all the possibilities. We could see the mountains in the summer or have another winter ski vacation. Hmmm, come to think of it, wouldn’t skiing in the Alps be great? But swimming in the tropics might be better. You can see right away that my personality type is conducive to dreaming.
But to actually go on vacation, you have to start narrowing it down, and I do, but not without throwing in a couple more options and certainly not without some grief over all the places I’ve eliminated.
It makes me edgy to eliminate choices. When I order at a restaurant, I get anxious, fearing that I didn’t make the best choice and grieving over all the things I can’t have.
My husband is the complete opposite personality type. The more he can narrow the choice, the more comfortable he is. Likewise, he grooves on knowing exactly where everything in his life is. He likes to park on the same side in the garage every day. He likes setting his coffee cup in the same spot on the counter.
His mantra: “A place for everything and everything in it’s place.”
Apparently, I like knowing my keys are somewhere in the house, though I’m not always sure where.

I call myself creative. My mantra: “It’s hard to be me . . . but it’s worth it.”
So, how does all this address how to lose weight? First, answer these quick questions:
Do you . . .
a) Take the same route to work every day?

b) Like to take a different route to your usual destinations?
a) Think you would be happier if only you could make reservations a week in advance?

b) Prefer to make a choice about which restaurant to go to while you’re pulling out of the driveway?
If you answered “a,” then you’re a “straight-line” personality type; “b,” you’re of the “winding path” personality type.
Each personality type has it’s advantages and unique challenges, particularly when it comes to diet plans and how to lose weight. Neither is preferable to the other, although straight-liners would have you believe that their way is best. They may get the weight off more quickly on their diet plan, but as we know, losing weight fast is not any indication that it has left your hips for good. Learning how to lose weight while honoring your ingrained personality type is a much more surefire strategy for long-term success.

Personality Types that Call for a Straight-Line Diet Plan

How to lose weight in the most straightforward fashion: I’m looking for the shortest path between me and my goal.
Strengths:

You tend to be disciplined and so can follow a directed diet plan quite easily. You don’t complicate things, but instead find a method that works and stick with it.
Advantage:

Steady weight loss.
Challenge:

You may have a harder time sticking to your diet plan during temporary transitions such as change in schedules, seasons and vacations. What should be viewed as temporary setbacks may lead to an exaggerated sense of failure that becomes self-fulfilling. Transitioning from your diet plan to long-term weight maintenance can be more difficult.
Primary Strategy:

Work to eliminate all-or-nothing thinking with regard to your diet plan. Remember that getting to and maintaining a healthy weight is a series of decisions.
Choosing a Diet Plan:

There are many, many answers to the question of how to lose weight, but “Just tell me what I should eat!” is a common cry for the “straight line” personality type. If you are of this personality type, you’ll be more comfortable choosing (or devising) a meal-type diet plan where food choices are limited. The counting-type diet plans might feel overwhelming, with too many choices.

Personality Types that Call for a “Winding Road” Diet Plan

How to lose weight in the most pleasant fashion: There are myriad ways to get there, might as well enjoy the journey.
Strengths:

You tend to be creative with your diet plan and make it “your own,” which means you won’t get bored or feel deprived.
Advantage:

Easier adaptation from diet plan to maintenance plan because you are adjusting throughout the journey.
Challenge:

You’ll probably lose more slowly and may feel like a failure because you can’t “follow” a diet plan.
Primary Strategy:

When considering how to lose weight, try looking at the many diet plans in existence and jumping from one to the next—choose a diet plan that interests you, but always be reading about and looking for new strategies.
Choosing a Diet Plan:

It’s best to have a counting-type diet plan, where any food is okay as long as it’s within a certain range. You may try “lifestyle change” dieting—simply rising to the challenge of eating with the intention of losing weight. Still, it is best to have the experience using a counting-type diet plan so that you have some structure to return to if you don’t see enough progress.
